Hickory Run Farm sent 8 horses to the HITS horse show in Culpeper, VA late in September and had a great horse show. First and foremost, congratulations go to Devon Reimer and Cheers for taking the Champion tri-color in the Modified Junior-Amatuer Hunters. Devon's second mount Double Dare (Deuce) also had ribbons in the Modified Junior-Amateurs as did Katie Dineen and Dark By Design (Space). Devon also got ribbons with Cheers in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunters and the Adult Amateur 18-35 Equitation among stiff competition from Zone 3 competitors trying for year end recognition.
HRF's other Amateurs also had a good horse show. Blaine and Joey moved up to the 3-foot hunters at only their fourth horse show together. During the second day of the Adult Amateurs they looked like they have been doing it for years. Fran and Cosmo also made major progress in Culpeper, challenging themselves with the extra long Virginia lines. Mary had a little bit of the jitters when she realized that Kris was in "horse show mode" but by the end of the weekend they were sync-ed up and looked like a great team. We were lucky enough to have Laura McCann come play for the day on Saturday and she swept up in the VHSA Adult Medal class with Kris. It was almost too easy!
Katie Dineen and Space spent plenty of time waiting this weekend but she and her Dad were both very good sports and she and Space were just a hair away from getting prizes in the Children's Hunters. Penny had a great time playing with Clipper in the Low Hunters early in the week and Lisa's horse (the golf cart) got a little tired on all those Virginia hills - thank goodness for the charger! We were also fortunate enough to have Grand Prix rider Ian Silitch ride Riley for us on the last day of the horse show - we're not sure if Riley knew he was on stage at that moment but he performed like a perfect gentleman. Stay tuned for more commentary!
